Slight Decrease of Salmon and Trout Exports in Chile During Q1 2023

The Department of Studies of the National Customs Service reported a slight export volume decrease of salmon and trout from Chile. As of April 2023, 257.01K tons of salmon and trout were exported, valued at USD 2.254M compared to 268.33K tons with a value of USD 2.259M during the same period of 2022, a drop of 4% in volume and 0.2% in value. In April 2023, 53.49K tons valued at USD 491M were exported, compared to 68.72K tons for USD 627M in March, a decrease of 22% in volume and value.
As of April of 2023, 9.43K tons of salmonids were exported to China for a value of USD 68.8M, an increase of 30% in volume and 35% in value, compared to the same period in 2022, with 6.16K tons and USD 50.9M.
Mexico continues with sustained growth, remaining a strategic market within the American continent for salmon and trout from Chile, receiving 7.75K tons, with a value of USD 87.3M, a rose of 26% in volume and 37% in value compared to 2022, in which 6.16K tons were exported for USD 63.9M. Brazil was the most important Latin American market for Chile, with 43.38K tons worth USD 296.3M exported as of April, compared to the same period in 2022, with 43.26K tons and a value of USD 294.8M, an increase of 1% in value.
To Japan, Chile sent 45,56K tons for USD 342.6M, compared to the 64,47K tons at a value of USD 447.5M, registered between January and April 2022, a drop of 29% in volumes and 23% in value.
The United States continues as the leading market for Chilean salmon with 85.30K tons exported, reaching a value of USD 972.1M, a 1% less in volume and 1% more in value, compared to 85,89K tons of salmon and trout for USD964.7 million exported during the same period in 2022. Lastly, Russia has increased its numbers, reflected both in volumes exported and in returns. Between January and April 2023, 14.57K tons were exported for a value of USD 105.2M, 96% more in volume and 79% more in value compared to the same period in 2022.
