Forecast for the 2022 Californian Almond Production 4% Below Last Year's Performance

On May 12, the USDA released the initial forecast for California's 2022 almond production, which was 2.80 billion pounds. The forecast is around 4% below last year's performance of 2.92 billion pounds. The forecasted bearing acreage for 2022 is a record high of 1,370,000 and the forecasted yield 2,040 pounds per acre. This is 8% lower than 2021, with a yield of 2,210 pounds per acre. The production forecast is based on a survey conducted from April 19 to May 6 from a sample of 500 almond growers.
