Greek Fresh Fruit And Vegetable Market Slowing Down in W46 Before Holidays

Greece's fresh produce market is experiencing a noticeable slowdown as Nov-24 progresses. Demand for fresh leafy vegetables has halved compared to Oct-24 despite Spain's heavy rains and limited local availability, which have not resulted in significant supply gaps. Citrus demand, particularly for lemons, has weakened, with prices dropping by USD 0.15 to 0.20 per kilogram (kg) weekly as local production meets market needs. The Naveline orange season started sluggishly due to an overlap with Valencia oranges. Imports of exotic fruits, including mangoes and limes, have also dropped, with hopes for a rebound closer to Christmas. Tomato and cucumber supplies have been affected by poor weather during planting, but reduced demand from the Hotel, Restaurant, and Café/Catering (HORECA) industry has kept prices stable. Although the market is cooling, this slower period allows retailers and wholesalers to optimize procurement strategies before the holiday season.
