The Guatemalan Ministry of Health issued a health alert derived from the consumption of shellfish. The waters of the pacific ocean are contaminated with the toxin known as "red tide" which is produced during the massive proliferation of algae. The name of the toxin is Saxitoxin, present in bivalves specifically clams. It is recommended that for the time being clams, mussels, and oyster shells are not to be consumed.
