With the increasing shortage of wheat in the country due to persistent drought, Kenya has imported wheat from Russia with a vessel docking at the port of Mombasa on 12 February 2023. The imports are expected to reduce the price of wheat, which retails at USD 0.75/kg in W7. The total import volume for wheat for 2022 was 135,000MT, and Kenya received 51,000MT of wheat from Ukraine that year.
