Manikganj carrots are meeting 40% of the Bangladesh's demand

Manikganj District has a good reputation for carrot production in Bangladesh. Farmers of Singair upazila of the district have been producing these nutritious food grains for almost 50 years. Although the cultivation was less in the beginning, the cultivation of carrots has increased with the passage of time. In just three months, the farmers have continued to cultivate this lucrative crop. Carrot yield has been good in Singair upazila of the district this season due to favorable weather and good care.

Meanwhile, farmers and traders are benefiting from the good price of carrots in the crop and wholesale markets this year. On the other hand, carrots produced in Singair upazila of Manikganj are meeting 35 to 40 percent of the country's demand by meeting local demand. These carrots are sold at various wholesale markets in Dhaka including Karwan Bazar, Shyambazar, Gazipur, Jatrabari, Comilla.

According to the district's agricultural extension department, about 10,000 farmers in Singair upazila are involved in carrot cultivation. Farmers have planted carrots in 1,050 hectares of land in Singair upazila this season. This year the target for cultivation is set at 1,100 hectares. Last year, more than a thousand acres of land were planted with 41 carrots per hectare of land.
