Taiwan has had two consecutive cold fronts within two weeks of time since the late December 2020. Tilapia, milkfish and seabass have already observed an increased price trend as the Chinese New Year approaches and the season is coming to end before the cold fronts enter Taiwan.

After the first wave of cold front, it was reported that milkfish has taken the biggest hit with severe loss, estimated to be around $730,000 USD. The local supplier is now not able to deliver their pending order due to the shortage of supply, nor provide new offers for the upcoming orders, as the damage of the second cold front is still unknown.

Moreover, Taiwanese Dollar (New Taiwan Dollar) has just hit new high since 1997 on January 6, 2020, and as well as the international freight costs spikes. Both are not favorable for exporting.
