A New Zealand grower/exporter has reported that the lower crop has resulted in higher dry matter this season which is ready to ship now. This comes with a significant challenge where the exporters are ready to send product overseas, but have limited capacity on shipping lines as well as dealing with port omissions. Now, Australia have an oversupply of avocados at the moment and will still have volumes for the next few months. Most Asian markets are benefitting from the less expensive Peruvian avocados which leaves New Zealand in a sticky spot. NZ need to harvest, domestic market can't take the volume, Australia can't take the volume (at least for now) and now Asia can't take the volume. This will create a huge gap in the market in a few months where everyone will be screaming for product but either supply will be non existent or the price will be excruciatingly high.
