The extreme rainy weather in Jun-23 and the overlapping heat waves in the West Balkans is causing a significant decline in sour cherry yield in the 2023 season. The size and the quality of the product is also inferior compared to previous seasons. The decrease in quantity is causing a supply shortage which in turn is causing prices to soar. IQF Sour cherry prices are soaring during August, trading at USD 1.87/kg (EUR 1,70/kg) in Bulgaria and Turkey, USD 1.76/kg (EUR 1,60/kg) in Poland and USD 1.65/kg (EUR 1,50/kg) in Serbia. The expectation is that suppliers will stop negotiating sales of the product since prices are expected to keep rising.
