Thai rice export struggles in 2021

Thai rice is expected to struggle in the first 6 months of 2021 according to the forecast. The production region is affected by drought along with strong Thai Baht and pandemic has affected the global demand. Thai rice exporters are also feeling the pain from container shortages. Globally, the turn around time from Europe and the United States has been prolonged due to COVID-19. There is limited handling capacity, with burgeoning freight costs and fewer containers returning to Asia. Without the ability to ship their produce, Thai rice exporters face another sombre year.
