According to India's Consumer Affairs Ministry, the retail price of tomatoes is at more than USD 1.00/kg in more than 50 cities. This high level of prices is the result of crop damages from unseasonal rains in main production regions.
It is reported that there is a lack of good-quality tomato availability in the Mandi(a marketplace where farmers sell their produce to the buyers through an auction) due to rains.
