By May 10th, the temperature has climbed to 28°C for several days. In the last week of May, the temperature is expected to reach 37°C in Central Greece and the continental Peloponnese. This will drive spring crops to an early end of Season; broccoli, lettuces, iceberg, and even strawberry season will end long before the usual period of mid-June and may create an expected gap in supply.
Another worrying effect of this warm weather is the disruption of pollination of olive trees, where high temperatures dehydrate pollen and blossoms. Lastly, unusually high temperature during May, most of the time creates high clouds and give birth to hail thunderstorms and that is the worst of all fear for all growers.
