Between January and March of 2023, the sales of potatoes in U.S. supermarkets saw a 16.0% increase but a 4.4% decrease in volume compared to the same period in the previous year. Despite this, the volume sales still surpassed pre-pandemic levels. All potato categories experienced an increase in dollar terms, with frozen potato products showing the highest growth at 41.9%. However, ready meals were the only category to see a volume increase. The average price per pound of ware potatoes rose by 18.7% compared to the previous year.
