Over 800 artisanal fishermen and fisherwomen from 20 states in Brazil protested in Brasília, calling for climate justice, food sovereignty, and public policies to support artisanal fishing. The protest, part of the 13th Grito da Pesca Artisanal meeting, marked World Fisheries Day and included participation from fishermen around the world. The fishermen are facing threats from large enterprises, climate change, and the expansion of shrimp farming, which they claim violates their rights and threatens their livelihoods and the ecosystem. The meeting will continue to discuss these issues and seek solutions until Friday.
