The Association of Banana Growers of Magdalena and La Guajira (ASBAMA) and the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) have provided small banana producers in La Guajira with biosecurity kits and training to combat FocR4T disease. The kits include disinfectants, biologicals, fertilizers, and compost, and a workshop was held to teach farmers how to use them. The partnership aims to cover 305 banana and plantain farms with prevention, containment, and mitigation actions by 2024, focusing on small and medium-sized farms in Magdalena, Cesar, and La Guajira. The initiative also includes social and economic characterization and detection of pest and disease understanding in farmers to address deficiencies and promote biosecurity.
