In October 2021, Vietnam's Office of Notification and National Inquiry Point on Sanitation, Epidemiology and Quarantine received multiple warnings from the European Union (EU) regarding violations of food safety regulations in Vietnamese export products. The warnings were for rambutan fruit, dried wood ear products, and 3mm black pepper due to pesticide residues and banned substances. A serious hazard was detected in cinnamon powder products with the presence of Bacillus cereus. Over 400 notices for violations of food safety regulations were issued by the EU, including 128 warnings for microbiological contamination and 93 warnings for pesticide residue levels. The Vietnam SPS Office has been instructed to review and inspect the products, and to report the findings to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
