The Federation of Agricultural Institutions of Santa Cruz (FIAS) has expressed concern over the growing guanaco population in the province, which is now close to 3 million. The National Plan for the Sustainable Management of the Guanaco (PNMSG) was implemented in July 2019 to address this issue. However, FIAS has observed that the plan has not effectively addressed the problem, leading to a decrease in food resources and water sources, which negatively impacts livestock production. The overpopulation of guanacos also poses a road safety risk. FIAS is calling on the provincial and national government to implement population control strategies to mitigate these effects and ensure sustainable production.
