In the Mykolayiv region of Ukraine, the construction of a vannamei shrimp hatchery is on the verge of completion, despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war. The project, led by Wismar Aqua LLC, aims to preserve a breeding stock of shrimp, with technologist Lyubomir Haydamaka emphasizing the difficulties in obtaining high-quality shrimp for cultivation due to war-related import restrictions. Haydamaka suggests that government intervention could help ensure safer and more stable conditions for importing productive breeding stock. Moreover, Ukraine has the potential to produce the necessary feed for shrimp, which is crucial for the high-quality genetics of the shrimp to thrive. The project has secured a lease for the water area intended for mariculture through an auction at a cost of UAH 9,000.
