In Indonesia, the smallholder palm oil replanting or rejuvenation program is encountering significant challenges, particularly with funding issues. Prof. Budi Mulyanto from IPB has proposed an increase in the replanting fund from IDR 30 million to IDR 50 million per hectare to provide better support for the farmers. He also stresses the importance of offering life support to farmers during the 5-year gap before the new plants start yielding, suggesting a model similar to the transmigration program under the Soeharto government. Furthermore, Prof. Budi underscores the necessity of gathering accurate data on farmers to ensure that the aid reaches its intended recipients, highlighting the critical aspects that need addressing to improve the effectiveness of the program.
