Jeollanam-do to Concentrate Management of Giant Snail Collection in July and August

Preemptively Block Population Increase to Minimize Overwintering Damage Jeollanam-do announced that it will designate July and August as the 'Concentrated Collection Period for Giant Applesnails' and conduct intensive collection activities in cities and counties to prevent crop damage in eco-friendly rice farming. Giant applesnails are effective for weed control in eco-friendly rice farming, but if not collected, they can flow into rivers or agricultural and drainage channels, overwinter, and cause damage by eating young rice plants in the following year. Accordingly, Jeollanam-do plans to intensively collect giant applesnails and their eggs around agricultural lands and water supply and drainage channels during the two months of July and August as part of its comprehensive strategy.
