The Valencian Community's beekeepers have reported a catastrophic end to the honey harvest season, with a 70% decrease in production due to climatological issues, increased production costs, and attacks from the bee-eater bird. The harvest of rosemary and orange blossom honey was specifically affected. The high temperatures and drought led to a scarcity of pollen and nectar, necessary for honey production, and forced bees to stay inside, undermining their food reserves. Additionally, the cost of necessary treatments and supplies has risen significantly due to the drought. The agricultural organization, La Unió Llauradora i Ramadera, is seeking direct aid from the Department of Agriculture and has proposed measures to control the bee-eater population to prevent further disruption.
