Cashew nut production in Manhiça district, Maputo province, is under threat from an unidentified pest causing the flowers of cashew trees to dry and drop, thereby preventing fruit development. The district, which is the country's largest cashew nut producer, has only managed to produce 60 tons out of the planned 220 tons, achieving just 30% of its target. Albino Saveca from the Almond Institute suggests that climate change could be the cause and measures are being taken to address the issue.
