The price of okra in Kayseri, Turkey has soared to almost the same level as gram gold due to its high cost of production and labor-intensive nature. Ahmet Duran Ertunç, a spice businessman, has observed a significant increase in the kilo price of the first-class green okra, also known as flower okra, which is grown mainly in Amasya, Turkey's largest producer of the crop. The high demand for okra, a staple in Turkish cuisine, especially in the form of soup, contrasts with the lower popularity of large okra in Kayseri, keeping its prices high.
