The towns of the Peach de Calanda Denomination of Origin are currently bagging peaches to protect them from pests and prevent damage. The special paper bags, which allow sunlight but not water or dust, help develop exceptional peaches with a high sugar content and firm flesh. Despite a potential 10-15% reduction in harvest due to adverse weather conditions, the Denomination is expected to see a historic campaign with good prices, supported by increased domestic consumption and stable exports to markets like Germany and Switzerland. All seasonal workers and those involved in the fruit industry have been vaccinated, and the region has plans in place to handle any COVID-19 outbreaks. The area employs about 1,500-2,000 people during the peak of the campaign.
