Ms. Hoang Thi Hai, the Director of Lien Minh Safe Agricultural Cooperative in Thai Nguyen province, Vietnam, has found success in intercropping watermelon with papaya, harvesting two tons of watermelons and experiencing high profits from selling papaya flower tea. Starting in January 2021, she planted watermelon and papaya on 3,600m2 of land, using organic farming methods and initial costs of 2.2 million VND. The watermelon variety she chose is easy to grow and highly profitable, selling for 7,000 VND/kg, while the papaya flowers are expected to bring in additional income for making tea products. This innovative agricultural approach, which involves a new way of cultivating and selling papaya flowers, is not only improving her income but also serving as a model for other farmers in the area.
