The UK has imported 5 tons of Ri6 durian from Vietnam, taking advantage of the preferential import tax exemption under the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement. The durian, sold at £14/kg in UK supermarkets, competes with durians from Thailand and Malaysia. TT Meridian Ltd. plans to import more Vietnamese tropical fruits. Vietnam's durian production is estimated at 1 million tons, available all year round, and its export earnings are on track to hit a record $1 billion in 2023, primarily to China.
