In the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam witnessed a 16.2% increase in fruit and vegetable exports, amounting to USD 982 million, largely due to China's border reopening. China was the largest market, contributing 58.7% of the total export value with over USD 576 million. The growth in exports was also supported by the EU's decision to remove control measures on four Vietnamese spices. The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetables Association anticipates a 20% increase in fruit and vegetable exports in 2023, reaching USD 4 billion, if trade agreements and investment in deep processing are optimally utilized. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is encouraged to swiftly sign phytosanitary protocols with China for more commodities to broaden the access to the Chinese market.
