Vine tomato prices remain stable in the Netherlands, but other fruit and vegetables are declining

Since the end of September, the average price for vine tomatoes has been higher than that for loose tomatoes. Last week the price started to diverge further on the VBT clocks. A kilo of vine tomatoes yielded an average of almost 40 euro cents more last week. The cucumber price is falling and the high eggplant and green zucchini prices also took a bite. Traditionally, more loose tomatoes come from importing countries and the growers here grow tomatoes on the vine. This winter, however, they will be forced to do so much less. This can make vine tomatoes more exclusive and possibly also more expensive. Since week 37, volumes have been lower for vine tomatoes compared to last year.
