Melon Exports for the 2022/23 Brazilian Harvest Are Limited (Jan 17)
Brazilian melon exports for the 2022/23 season were lower than expected between August and December 2022. Shipments had a weak start and did not recover in 2022. According to data from Secex, the volume exported in part of the campaign was only 127K tons, a decrease of 25% compared to the same period in the 2021/22 season. Revenue was USD 99M (FOB), a decrease of 11% YoY.

In Costa Rica, with the beginning of the 2023 season, in W2 the price of fresh yellow honeydew melon has started at USD 0.88/kg, a decrease of 16% of the price offered in the same period during the last 2022 season.
The Melon Season Started in Costa Rica During W2 (Jan 17)
The Nicoya and Nandayure regions of Costa Rica concentrate more than 50% of the melon production in the country. During W2, the majority of the suppliers within the region started harvesting. An estimated 980 ha were planted in these areas for season 2023.

China Imported Myanmar Sweet Watermelon For The Chinese New Year (Jan 20)
As the Spring Festival approaches, trucks full of Myanmar watermelons and melons entered customs and were transported to all parts of China. Data show that China is the world's largest producer and consumer of watermelons. Yearly after winter, due to the vacancy of local watermelons, Myanmar's out-of-season watermelons produced in neighboring countries have become the mainstay of China's watermelon market, accounting for about 80% of the entire market. About 90% of Myanmar watermelons imported by China enter through the Mangman Channel of Wanding Port and are transported to Change Fruit Trading Market for trading.

Brazilian Watermelon Exports Break Record (Jan 19)
In December of 2022, Brazilian watermelon exports increased, breaking a record since the beginning of the Secex historical series in 1997. Around 18.4K tons have been exported, an increase of 9% compared to December 2021. The amount collected was USD 12M, a significant increase of 57% compared to 2021.
