One month since the peak harvest season for avocado, the price of a local variety of avocado called Alpukat Mentega is now on the rise. At several traditional markets and modern retailers in Indonesia, Alpukat Mentega is currently sold at IDR 40.000/Kg, significant increase from its average price in the span of March to early May 2020 at IDR 25.000/Kg. The sharp increase is mainly attributed to the decreasing supply of this fruit from the producing regions in Indonesia as the harvest season has passed its peak, while the demand for it is still considerably high. For reference, some sellers in West Java mentioned that they had to source additional stock from neighboring provinces such as South Sumatra and Riau in order to cope with the daily demand in their region.
