France was previously estimated to have a production yield of 5,900 tons by the end of 2019/20 season however according to the French olive oil association the final production yield will be as low as 3,250 - 3,500 tons.
2019/20 production yield is in sharp decline compared to two previous years with 6,100 tons in 2017 and 5,300 tons in 2018.
The decline of the 2019/20 season is due to unfavorable weather conditions such as cold spring, later on coupled with dry and hot summer conditions and even some farmers have had the olive fly damaging the fruits.
On the other hand, the country has significant olive oil stocks caused by the Covid-19 pandemic with a decline in consumption and demand for olive oil.
