The Eurasian Economic Union agrees to remove import tariffs of a series of products mainly vegetables coming from Iran.
By the end of 2019, there was a free trade agreement signed by Iran and the EAEU member states which are Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia.
The main importer of Iranian products is Russia and the decision comes amid border closures, fears of food shortages and export bans on certain products caused by Covid-19 outbreak.
The products concerned and exempt from import duties are potatoes, onions, garlic, cabbages, carrots, peppers, fruit juices, wheat, long-grain rice, and baby food.
On the other hand, the Iranian authorities are concerned that the country lacks the necessary refrigerated railway containers to deliver perishable goods to member countries.
