Indonesian tamarind suppliers are now facing apparent competition from the exporters from Thailand when it comes to supplying the demand for tamarind from the packaged tamarind drink manufacturers in Indonesia. The market share for the imported tamarind from Thailand has now grown to around 40% of the total tamarind supplied to these manufacturers annually, which is a quite significant increase from the market share in 2018 and 2019 at 15% and 20% respectively. Just like tamarind from Indonesia, the ones from Thailand also has strong taste and aroma, but what set the Thailand suppliers apart is the fact that they can ensure average monthly supply of tamarind at 20 MT to the overseas buyers, which is a major factor that draws the Indonesian manufacturers to source tamarind from them.
