Despite the sanctions imposed on Russia by EU countries, EU-origin products are still making their way into the Russian market through Turkish traders. Dutch conference variety pears are one of those products which first make their way into Turkey where they are repacked and then sold into the Russian market. As a result of political tensions arising from the Russia-Ukraine war, Turkey has become a primary gateway into the Russian market for all the growers located in the countries from which Russia has restricted imports.
