The local farmers of konjac in North Sumatra province have been producing konjac more seriously on a regular basis as strong demands have been coming from Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia and Thailand, as well as Eastern Asian countries like China and Japan. In the span of January to the second week of August 2020, for example, the export volume of konjac from North Sumatra has been recorded at 200 MT. Moreover, what sets the konjac plant from this region is the size of it that is bigger compared to the varieties from other producing regions in Indonesia, where the mature one can have a weight of around 3-4 Kg. So far in 2020, the export growth for konjac in Indonesia has reached around 84% in comparison to its export volume last year and it is expected that the growth will continue to at least 92% by the end of 2020.
