The ovine and asparagus sectors among worst affected by the pandemic

The Rural Development Office and the local government office of the autonomous region of Navarra have holder an emergency meeting to discuss different ways to aid and support the Navarran rural sector.

There was consensus among participants that the worst-hit sectors were the lamb and asparagus sectors. The former has seen a steep decline in the sales to restaurants and hotels, and growers complain that the sale of fresh cheese has also suffered. Regarding asparagus, growers have signaled that they have been left with thousands of ha of unsold cultivated land, and they fear that if they collect the product, they might not sell it.

For now, the government will analyze the situation a determine what kind of help to provide to farmers. However, they expect the sector not to recover until the next campaign.
