In Northeastern Bulgaria, seven companies are actively purchasing tobacco for the 2021 season, with a focus on the Burley and Kabakulak varieties, acquiring 180 tons and 105 tons, respectively, out of total productions of 360 tons and 300 tons. The purchase prices per kilogram vary based on the variety, ranging from BGN 3.50 to BGN 3.90 for Burley and BGN 6 to BGN 6.20 for Kabakulak. So far, about 90% of the production is expected to be purchased by the end of the year. The article also highlights the concerns of Abibe Sheinova, a tobacco farmer, regarding the low pay for her work and the challenging harvest conditions due to dryness, which have resulted in a reduced yield. The Association of Oriental Tobacco Producers is calling for government oversight and fairer pricing to support the agricultural community.
