Chinese Onion Exports Rose 46% YoY in November (Jan 5)
According to customs data, China exported 103,400 tons of fresh or frozen onions in November 2022, with an export value of almost USD 60.68M. Exports increased by 8.7% MoM, and 46% YoY. Accumulative exports from January to November 2022 were 722,300 tons, an increase of 22.6% YoY.

In the United States market, the yellow onion has been priced from USD 20-22 on 25lb jumbo sacks during W1. According to distributors in McAllen and Florida market, due to the holiday, demand has slowed down but it's beginning to pick up, operations are resuming normally, and freight costs are starting to stabilize.

Paraná was the seventh national producer of onions in 2021 and represented 6.4% of national production, with the activity explored in the other fifteen states of the federation (IBGE/PAM). For the 2022/23 harvest Allium cultivation has an estimated area of 3,300 hectares, 17.0% less than the previous period. On the other hand, production of 104.4K tons is estimated in 2023.

Onion prices in the Philippines may fall in the coming weeks due to the harvest in January and the expected drop in fertilizer prices. Inflation increased to 8.1 % in December 2022, mainly due to higher food prices influenced by vegetables, including onions. Vegetable prices rose 32.4% that month, the highest inflation rate since February 1999.

Poland Increased Onion Exports by 60% In 2022 (Jan 6)
According to the Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS), onion exports from this country increased by 26K tons in 2022, representing a 60% increase YoY, while wholesale prices increased by 2.9%. This situation occurred due to high demand from Ukraine of around 23K tons, where a significant decrease in the production of onions was recorded due to the war.

At the beginning of W1, a downward price trend started in the onion market in Ukraine. The price decrease in the segment was due to the noticeably weaker demand and the systematic supply of onions from Central Asian countries. Onion prices in Ukraine have fallen by an average of 13% since the start of the week.
