According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ukraine has sown 852.1 thousand hectares (ha) as of April 4, which accounts for 15.2% of the planned area of 5.601 million ha, with spring grain and leguminous crops. Specifically, oats cover 62.4 thousand ha, representing 38.4% of the planned area of 162.7 thousand ha.

Spain's Cereal Imports Rise, Oats Declined in 2023/24 Campaign

Spain experienced a 7.5% year-on-year (YoY) increase in cereal imports during the 2023/24 cereal marketing campaign. This increase was particularly notable for common wheat, durum wheat, and rye sourced from third countries. Conversely, imports of corn, barley, and oats decreased during this period, with oats experiencing a notable decline of 12% YoY, totaling 28 thousand metric tons (mt).

Türkiye Boosts Agriculture with Barley and Oat Seed Distribution

To boost agricultural production in Ardahan, Türkiye, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry distributed 181 mt of barley and oat seeds to 362 producers. This initiative was part of a program organized at the Caucasian Bee Production, Training, and Gene Center Directorate to develop agriculture. The seeds were distributed to farmers in the city center and five districts, with plans to plant them across an area of 7.24 ha. The Deputy Governor highlighted the importance of this seed support for production, aiming to enhance sustainability and economic profitability in agricultural enterprises by promoting barley and oat production with certified seeds in Ardahan.

Heavy Rainfall Boosts Soil Moisture in Queensland, Australia, for the Winter Crop Season

Recent heavy rainfall in Mar-24 significantly improved soil moisture levels across Australia's Queensland state, particularly in the Maranoa and western Darling Downs regions. This surplus of rain has generated optimism among farmers for a promising winter crop season. The rainfall exceeding monthly long-term averages is forecasted to increase fava beans, oats, wheat, and chickpeas plantings.
