Meat Processors Want All Sheep, Lambs, and Farm Goats Sold With Eid by 2025

Australia’s meat processors want all sheep, lambs and farm goats leaving properties to a new location on and after 1 January 2025 to have an electronic tag. The processors are prepared to consider a ‘no EID tag no buy’ policy to drive the change if state farmers, peak industry bodies and governments cannot. Australian Meat Industry Council chief executive officer Patrick Hutchinson has told Sheep Central as soon as a sheep, lamb or farmed goat departs a Property Identification Code (PIC) location from 1 January 2025 to whatever location, as occurs with cattle, an approved EID should be applied. AMIC’s position is an interpretation of the mandatory national sheep/goat EID system start date of 1 January 2025 set by a virtual Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting on 9 September this year, but it is at odds with a draft New South Wales implementation timeline.

Andalusia Allocates Two Million in Aid to Build Water Tanks and Troughs for Livestock

The Governing Council has learned of the call for aid aimed at reducing and preventing the consequences of drought on community livestock farms. The measure is part of the Rural Development Program (PDR) of Andalusia and supports investments for preventive measures that mitigate the possible impact of natural disasters, climatic adversities and catastrophes in the agricultural sector, such as drought and is included in the second Drought Decree. The total amount of these aids amounts to 2 million. The livestock sector is especially sensitive to drought situations, since the lack of availability of pastures in sufficient quantity and quality is compounded by the difficulty of guaranteeing the water supply to the animals, due to the fact that many of the water points of where cattle feed normally can become dry when the drought is prolonged. With these subsidies, the Andalusian Government helps in the acquisition of water tanks for livestock, in the civil works necessary for their installation, in the acquisition of vats for transporting water, the acquisition of drinking troughs and in the pipes necessary for the distribution of water to drinking troughs or water tanks. The beneficiaries of these aids will be those registered in the Register of Livestock Farms of Andalusia of poultry, bovine, porcine and small ruminant species, specifically, sheep and goats. Priority will also be given to belonging to a Sanitary Defense Group or the commitment to subscribe to agricultural insurance. The eligible amount, in general, will be 80% of the investment, with a maximum grant amount of 20,000 euros per beneficiary being established, and a minimum amount of 1,000 euros.
