The price of medium rice stood at USD 0.79/kg (IDR 11.9K/kg). The price surpassed the highest price in 2022, which was USD 0.75/kg (IDR 11,340/kg) in December 2022. Since then, the rice has continued to rise until reaching the highest level this year in February 2023, reaching USD 0.78/kg (IDR 11,770/kg).

In Argentina, rice production remains critical in the city of Corrientes. Estimating 471K tons less rice, a 50% loss of the crop due to drought and lack of water.

Brazil

Rice Harvest Reaches 24% In Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil (Mar 22)

In Brazil, Fronteira Oeste is the most advanced campaign, with 89.5K hectares harvested, which represents 35.65% of the total planted area of 251K ha. The campaign has registered 37.3K ha, a 30.48% of the 122.5K ha sown.

USDA Forecasts World Rice Production in 2022/23 to Decrease for the First Time in 7 Years (Mar 20)

In 2023, global rice production is forecasted to be the lowest since 2019/20, increasing the production forecast for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Uzbekistan but lowering the production forecast for Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, the European Union, and Vietnam. The total global rice supply in the 2022/23 crop year in the February 2023 report was up by 0.2M tons from the previous month's to 686.3 million tons, but still 2% lower than the previous period.

Paraguay

The Rice Area in Paraguay Increased by 15K Hectares in This Campaign (Mar 20)

In Paraguay, the sowing of the rice harvest was delayed due to the climatic conditions registered at the beginning of the campaign. An area growth of 9.4% is estimated, and 175K hectares were cultivated.


Russia

Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture Assessed the Risks of a Rise in Price of Rice (Mar 21)

In Russia, last year's harvest is sufficient for processing enterprises. Over the past year, the production of rice groats in Russia increased by 2.6%. The quality meets the required parameters. According to the results of monitoring, analysis, and assessment of the volume of consumer properties of rice, out of the surveyed 867.1K tons, about 96.11% of rice corresponds to class 1-3, and only 3.89% does not comply with GOST.


Uruguay

Uruguayan Harvest Exceeds 18% Of the Area (Mar 20)

The Rice Producers Association of Uruguay (ACA) held the inauguration of the 2022/2023 rice harvest on March 6 in Vichadero, Rivera, and conducted the first survey of the progress harvest, which on March 13 reached 18% on the national average. In this harvest, the total area is 159.7K hectares.
