Global: World Meat Production Increases by Just Over 1% In 2022

There will be about 360.1 million tons, a little less than what was forecasted last June (360.1 million tons), but 1.24% more than the 2021 production. This is almost 6% more than the production of 2020, the year of outbreak of the current pandemic. Compared to last year, the four meats evaluated by the FAO must register an increase in the production. However, the lowest rate of expansion is reserved for poultry meat (essentially, chicken meat), whose expansion should correspond to less than half of the forecast rates, for example, for pork and beef. Even so, poultry meat will continue to lead world production, accounting for 38.5% of the total (pork, 34.6%; beef, 20.5%; lamb, 4.6%; and other meats, 1 .7%).

Netherlands: Another Major Bird Flu Outbreak in Limburg, 233,000 Chickens Culled

Bird flu has been diagnosed on a laying hen farm in Oostrum in Limburg. The 233,000 chicken on the farm will be killed, the Ministry of Agriculture reported on Saturday. It is one of the largest culls to date. The largest outbreak was recorded on October 20 in Heythuysen in Limburg. There, 300,000 laying hens had to be killed to prevent the virus from spreading. There are no other companies around the institute in Oostrum that need to be cleared immediately. However, six poultry farms are being investigated for bird flu. There is an immediate ban on the transport of animals, eggs and manure in a circle of 10 kilometres around the affected company.

Netherland: Bird Flu Detected at Hobby Holder in Zegveld

The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality reports that bird flu has been diagnosed in Zegveld (municipality of Woerden, province of Utrecht) on a small-scale hobby farm with ornamental waterfowl. Approximately 100 ornamental water birds are kept at the location. In addition, there are wild birds. To prevent the virus from spreading, the birds present are being culled by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).

France: A New Wave of Bird Flu Is Predicted

France has put the country on "high" alert level for bird flu, forcing poultry farms to keep birds indoors to contain the spread of the highly contagious disease. The European Union's second-largest poultry producer has seen a new surge in bird flu outbreaks in recent months, after experiencing its worst wave of the disease this year, when some 22 million birds were slaughtered. Between August 1 and November 8, 49 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), commonly known as avian influenza, were detected on French farms, with a large and growing number of cases in domestic poultry and wild birds, it has been reported by the ministry.

US: Broiler Exports Set All-Time Records in 2022

U.S. broiler exports for the first three quarters of 2022 reached an all-time high in volume and value, according to new trade data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service. China, Taiwan, Congo (Brazzaville), Philippines, Georgia, Angola, Turkmenistan, Gambia, Singapore, Gabon, Mauritania, Benin, and Canada showed tremendous gains in broiler exports from the same period a year earlier. Broiler exports for the first three quarters of this year were 2,815,978 metric tons, up 5.0 percent from the same period of last year, while export value reached $3.96 billion, up 20.6 percent. Of the total shipment, 57.4 percent, which is 1,616,165 metric tons, were shipped to the top six markets, including China, Mexico, Cuba, Taiwan, Philippines, and Canada. China led all other U.S. export markets in broiler exports in both volume and value.

Brazil: Chicken Meat Production Is the Highest Ever for the Period

Preliminary data from the IBGE on Brazilian meat production in the third quarter of 2022 indicated that chicken slaughter in the period totaled just over 1.550 billion head, a number that meant an increase of 3.14% over the previous quarter (1.504 billion heads, the lowest volume in eight consecutive quarters) and 1.72% in relation to the same quarter last year (1.537 billion heads).

Brazil: In Two Weeks, Foreign Exchange Revenue From Fresh Chicken Meat Already Reaches 60% Of the Total Earned a Year Ago

Even if they suffer some dilution over the period, the initial figures from SECEX/ME on exports of fresh chicken meat in November are auspicious. In the first eight days of the month, 161,733 tons of the product were shipped, a volume resulting from average shipments of approximately 20,217 tons per day, the second best result in the entire history of exports. With this result, only 40% of the month has passed (eight of a total of 20 working days in November), the volume exported represents almost 53% of the little more than 305 thousand tons of a year ago. The average price, unfortunately, continues in retraction. After having reached a historic record (US$2,223.31/ton) last July, it has registered consecutive declines since then. In November it is, for now, at US$2,050.49/ton, a value around 1% lower than that of last October. Even so, the current average price remains almost 15% higher than a year ago.

Brazil: Expansion of Commercial Relationship With Qatar and Increment by 40% Of the Volume of Chicken Shipped to the World Cup Host Country

Data from ABPA (Brazilian Association of Animal Protein) show that, in the first ten months of 2022, Qatar increased by 40% the volume of chicken meat purchased from Brazil, when compared to the same period of 2021 hence the revenue increment in the period was 67%. Other countries follow in the same direction, for example, Singapore, which between January and October 2022 had a 54% increase in volume and 83% in revenue, when compared to the same period last year. Saudi Arabia also recorded a 26% increase in revenue compared to the two periods. In the accumulated result for the year, revenue from chicken meat exports reached US$ 8.195 billion, an increase of 29.3% compared to January and October 2021. In volume, shipments registered in the first ten months of 2022 reached 4.060 million tons, volume 5.1% higher than the same period of the previous year.

Brazil: Foreign Exchange Revenue From Meat in 10 Months Already Exceeds by 10% The Total Revenue Recorded 2021

Poultry volume increased by almost 5%, while beef is more than a fifth higher (+20.35%). With such performances, beef and chicken achieved a record volume for the period. The same two meats are the ones that have been obtaining significant appreciation in prices and the biggest gain (+23.33%) remains with chicken meat.

Brazil: Chicken Meat’s Performance, of the Four Main Items Exported in the First 10 Months of 2022

Even though the volume evolution index among industrialised chicken (+13.11%) exceeds that achieved by the other three main exported items, chicken cuts remain the flagship (unbeatable) in Brazilian chicken meat exports . Incidentally, its 6.99% increase between January and October corresponds to an additional almost 185 thousand tons, while the 13.11% increase in industrialised products amounts to less than a tenth of that volume – no more than 11 thousand tons. But not only that, because cuts have also been registering the best price evolution compared to last year, with an increase of 23.61%. Hence, its revenue is almost a third above that achieved in the same nine months of 2021. With a negative result in the period, only the whole chicken, whose volume has been close to 3% lower than that of the same period last year.

Brazil: ABPA Projects Increased Sales of Chicken Meat to the United Kingdom After New Quotas

The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) said on Friday that an agreement establishing larger volumes of export quotas for chicken meat from Brazil to the United Kingdom should boost business with that market, which is the 14th largest importer of the Brazilian product this year. The agreement revises the division of quotas originally established shortly after Brexit and which, in some ways, did not accurately reflect trade flows. The quota for cooked chicken went from 26.8 thousand tons to 42 thousand tons, representing the biggest gain for the sector in Brazil, while in the case of salted chicken it went from 40.8 thousand to 46.2 thousand tons.

Poland: Domestic Poultry Prices

The level of purchase prices was affected by a number of factors, including, in particular, rising prices of energy carriers and high prices of feed, which are the main cost element of poultry production. Indirectly, the purchase prices of chickens were stimulated by increased labour costs incurred by production plants, i.e. pressure to increase wages due to inflation. The price situation on the domestic market was also influenced by foreign demand for domestic poultry products. At the same time, price increases were limited by the increased market supply of chickens from domestic production. According to the ZSRIR data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the average purchase price of broiler chickens in Poland on September 12-18, 2022 was PLN 6.11 / kg compared to PLN 6.07 / kg a month ago. The purchase price level of broiler chickens in mid-September 2022 was 53% higher than a year ago.

Russia: Export of Poultry Meat in Eight Months of 2022 Increased by 27%

According to the presentation by Lakhtyukhov, for 8 months, poultry exports from Russia amounted to 242.246 thousand tons. The head of the union said that over the past two years, the share of China in the total volume of export deliveries has decreased, while deliveries to this country are growing in tonnage. “In 2020, we said that more than 50% of all poultry meat exports come from China. Now this figure is below 50%,” the head of the union said. According to him, Russian manufacturers "largely" increased the volume of deliveries to the MENA countries (Middle East and North Africa) and African countries. "African countries have begun to actively purchase Russian poultry products. And this is not only broiler meat, but also turkey - it would seem that this is quite a premium product, which we position and compare with beef and lamb. But this expensive product was also tried by African countries", Lahtyukhov said. He also announced that the growth of poultry meat production in the industrial sector in Russia for the nine months of 2022 amounted to 5%, reaching 4.8 million tons. "This is if we take the market as a whole, taking into account personal subsidiary plots, then the growth is about 4.7%. Each federal district showed growth," Lakhtyukhov said.

Colombia: Due to the Presence of Avian Influenza, a Health Emergency Has Been Declared

After the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development convened a Unified Command Post with the presence of FENAVI, the Colombian Farmers' Society (SAC), the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Health, among other entities, they decided to declare a Sanitary Emergency in the National Territory due to the presence of Avian Influenza in backyard domestic birds in order to facilitate the availability of resources, control actions and eradication of the disease through resolution No. 22990 of November 2022. For its part, the ICA reiterates that the presence of the disease in the country does not jeopardise the production or consumption of eggs, chicken meat, and also, taking into account that all the outbreaks have been detected in birds that are poultry (domestic birds). Therefore, Colombia has maintained its status as a self-declared country free of avian influenza since 2011. Poultry farms certified as compartments free of avian influenza in the national territory maintain the conditions that gave rise to their certification as free of this disease. However, the ICA makes a special call to poultry producers to reinforce all biosecurity measures to prevent the entry of the disease to their farms and the spread of the disease.

Iran: Poultry Decreased by 19%

According to the Statistical Center of Iran, chicken accounted for 129,697 tons or 98.3% of the overall production while other types of poultry, such as turkey, quail, ostrich and partridge, amounted to 2,194 tons or 1.7% of the overall poultry output during the period under review.

Indonesia: Breeders Warn That Chicken Meat Prices Will Rise

Chairman of the National Association of Chicken Farmers Association (GOPAN), Pardjuni predicts that ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the price of purebred chicken meat will increase. However, what is still a concern is that the increase is still not as expected by chicken farmers. "There will be another increase, usually it's just at that moment. But even that, if we count from the supply side of the seeds that go into maintenance, everything might not be good," said Pardjuni to CNBC Indonesia, Monday (14/11/2022 ). Pardjuni said that currently the price of purebred chicken at the breeder level can only move in the range of approximately Rp. 17 thousand per kilogram, while the current reference price has increased to Rp. 21-23 thousand per kilogram.

South Korea: Signs of Nationwide Spread of AI That Started Earlier Than in Previous Years

Avian influenza (AI) that occurred in Korea in the middle of last month is sweeping the central region. The outbreak of the virus come nearly a month earlier than in previous years, and the number of migratory birds, which are considered sources of infection, is on the rise, putting the quarantine authorities on high alert. There is also a possibility that AI will spread rapidly in that migratory birds that stayed in the central region will spread to the southern region at the end of this month when the temperature drops below freezing point. Confirmation of 12 places in the central region in one month. Added 1 suspicion AI was first confirmed on a domestic poultry farm on the 19th of last month. A highly pathogenic H5N1 virus was detected at a duck farm in Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province, and 9,800 ducks were culled. Three days later, the infection was confirmed at a broiler breeder farm in the area that raises 32,000 chickens. The AI virus is usually confirmed in early November in wild birds and late November in farms, but this year it was more than a month earlier. Since then, the virus has spread in an instant, and additional infected farms have appeared in Chungbuk (8 places), Chungnam (1 place), and Jeonbuk (1 place).

Mexico: The Vaccination of Birds in High-Risk Areas Will Begin This Week to Prevent the of Avian Influenza

Within the framework of the joint work carried out by the National Agri Food Health, Safety and Quality Service (Senasica) and the National Poultry Farmers Union (UNA) to deal with the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (IAAP) AH5N1. Before that concludes this week will begin the vaccination of birds, in order to minimise the impact of the virus in the poultry production units (UPA).

Paraguay: Senacsa Seeks to Prevent Avian Influenza

Considering that the advance of avian influenza in the world and, recently, in the American continent, specifically Colombia and Mexico, puts the poultry industry, the livelihoods of producers, international trade and the health of birds at risk , Paraguay also seeks to address this situation through biosecurity measures for better control of the disease. In this sense, Senacsa published a series of points to consider in the face of the possible presence of avian influenza in the country. Thus, it is recommended to restrict the access of people and vehicles outside the establishment, prevent poultry from coming into contact with birds and wild animals, the sheds and/or chicken coops must have protection (anti-bird mesh fabric), in addition it is advisable to clean and disinfect the facilities, avoid handling unprotected sick birds and carry out proper waste and mortality management.

Turkey

US: Bird Flu Outbreak Us Reduce Supply of Giant Turkeys Ahead of Thanksgiving Gatherings

Birds weighing 18 to 20 pounds (8.2 to 9.1 kg), enough to feed more than two dozen people, are in short supply this year as an outbreak of avian flu in the United States has destroyed flocks across the country. With more people looking to celebrate together in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there's a growing demand for big thighs and meaty breasts, according to US poultry and food suppliers. Avian flu has wiped out about 8 million turkeys through fatal infections and culls to control outbreaks, representing nearly 4% of the nation's herd, according to US government data. Turkey meat production this year is expected to drop 7% compared to 2021, the government said. If a farm has an outbreak, producers must disinfect their barns after slaughtering turkeys and wait about six months before restocking. It can take up to 20 weeks for farmers to produce a heavy male turkey known as a tom. Frozen stocks of whole chickens, female turkeys that tend to weigh 16 pounds or less, at the end of September were 9% higher than a year earlier, according to the most recent data from the US Department of Agriculture. Frozen stocks of whole meats, which typically weigh 16 to 24 pounds in the store, were down 17%.

Egypt: Poultry Prices

Turkey prices ranged between 55 and 65 pounds per kilo in the local market while the weights were between 6 and 12 kilograms. The number of breeders working in the sector were between 50,000 and 60,000 establishments, including 20 large companies, according to data from the Poultry Producers Union. Egypt relies on importing turkeys, given that local production is very limited and does not meet the needs of the local market.

Ecuador: Paying for Pork or Turkey in Instalments Is an Option

The offer started in supermarkets and restaurants with $5 left separating them. A kilo of the frozen bird costs about $4. Customers began to separate the turkey or pork that they are going to prepare for Christmas dinner and December 31. The option of bringing the food ready to serve also opened up the possibility of paying in instalments and finishing paying until the day the products are withdrawn. Among the supermarkets where it is possible to make reservations are Fernández, Rancho and ServiCe cárnicos. The separation is with 5 dollars, but each location competes to attract customers. For example, Fernández gives away a bottle of wine or a 1 kilo Christmas ham. Here you can select between a 7 or 13 kilo turkey, which cost 40 or 70 dollars respectively. At El Rancho there is the option of separating for the two main dinners in December.

South Korea: Detected AI Antigen in Duck Farms in Jangheung Following Gangjin Bay and Suncheon Bay

H5-type avian influenza (AI) antigen was detected in a bird carcass test at a duck farm in Jangheung, following Gangjin Bay and Suncheon Bay in Jeollanam-do. According to South Jeolla Province on the 16th, the H5 type AI antigen was confirmed in the carcasses of ducks raised on a farm in Busan-myeon, Jangheung-gun. At this farm, which raises 10,500 ducks for meat, a mass death occurred two days ago on the 14th. 574,000 poultry, including 368,000 chickens and 206,000 ducks, are raised in 22 farms within 10km of nearby areas, including Boseong and Gangjin. The test to confirm whether or not it is highly pathogenic takes 1 to 3 days. South Jeolla Province dispatched an initial response team to control access to the farm where the outbreak occurred and intensively disinfected nearby roads. Preventive culling of 71,000 ducks, was carried out at five farms within 1 km, including the farm where the outbreak occurred. Within a radius of 10 km, it was set as a quarantine area to control movement, and intensive disinfection and clinical surveillance were initiated. A simultaneous inspection of 22 farms is also underway.

South Korea: Highly Pathogenic h5n1 From Dead Birds in Haebancheon, Gimhae

Gyeongnam Province announced on the 20th that it will focus on quarantine management to prevent inflow as highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1 type) was recently detected one after another in the dead wild birds in the province. According to the province, on the 14th, the H5N1 type was confirmed in the dead birds (swans and ducks) found in Haebancheon, Gimhae. Prior to this, the H5N1 type antigen was detected in birds and faeces captured in Sachoncheon in Gimhae and Bongkok Reservoir in Changwon last month. This month, avian influenza antigen (H5 type) was detected in wild bird carcasses and faeces found in Hapcheon Stream, Changnyeong Upo Wetland, and Haeban Stream in Gimhae, and a close examination is underway to determine whether they are highly pathogenic. The province banned people and vehicles from entering within a 500m radius of the antigen detection area. In addition, banners, etc. were installed at the entrance to restrict access to livestock vehicles and related workers, and to strengthen disinfection at the poultry farm entrance.

Egypt: Poultry Prices

The prices of ducks have stabilised between 50 and 65 pounds per kilo. The number of ducks in Egypt is about four million birds which is equivalent to 7% of the number of poultry, according to the statements of the head of the Poultry Wealth Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce.

Egg

Turkey: Chicken Egg Production Increased by 2.1

Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the September Poultry Production data. Chicken egg production, which was 1,684,691,000 units in the previous month, increased by 2.1 percent in September to 1,719,515,000 units.

Germany: Great Egg Shortage

Packing stations and poultry farmers are having great difficulty supplying the German market with eggs. That will probably only improve in the spring, writes the Express . It is not the first time that the egg sector has sounded the alarm. He warned in March 2021 that the supply of eggs was problematic. Due to the war in Ukraine, animal feed is more expensive and more difficult to obtain. In addition, energy costs have risen sharply. The sector is also upset with the day-old male chicks of the laying breeds. Since 1 January 2022, killing them has been prohibited in Germany and the breeding of the 'brother roosters' or the in-ovo selection by sex must be co-financed by the companies. According to poultry farmer Henner Schönecke, the housing costs of twenty thousand laying hens have therefore doubled to 200,000 euros. Part of the egg shortage is compensated by imports from abroad, but German discounters and supermarkets are said to demand eggs produced without killing chicks.

UK: Egg Rationing in Some Supermarkets Due to Bird Flu

Some UK supermarkets have begun rationing customers' purchases of eggs after supplies were cut by bird flu. Britain, which is facing its biggest bird flu outbreak in its history, is seeing the number of cases on commercial farms rise rapidly, affecting egg supplies and raising fears of a shortage of turkeys and chickens at Christmas. Asda, Britain's third-largest supermarket group after market leader Tesco and second-largest Sainsbury's, is limiting purchases to two cartons of eggs per customer.

Ukraine: How the Prices of Eggs Will Change

Association "Union of Poultry Men of Ukraine" notes a decrease in prices for chicken eggs in November. "Production is currently in atypical conditions, due to interruptions in energy supply, all technological processes are disrupted, which leads to an increase in production costs; the risks of losses due to the death of birds are increasing," Serhiy Karpenko explained. According to him, in September-October, there were objective reasons for the increase in the wholesale and retail prices of producers for eggs due to the increase in basic production costs and the increase in the cost of production, and due to the consequences of the unprofitability of the sector in recent years and military actions. Prior to that, the seasonal factor had a significant impact on egg pricing. Also, since the beginning of August, with the signing of the "grain agreement" and the opening of sea ports, the prices of grains, oil crops and their processing products, which form the price of compound feed, are gradually increasing, and this is 65-70% of the cost of an egg.

Ukraine: Experts Predicted the Price of Eggs Before the New Year Holidays

Association "Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business" (UKAB) predicts the price of chicken eggs at 65 hryvnias per dozen before the New Year holidays. This was reported to Ukrainian News by UKAB analyst Svitlana Lytvyn. "During the last 2 weeks, prices for chicken eggs have stabilised and are at the level of UAH 73.92 per 10 pieces. In the near future (about 2 weeks), we expect the beginning of the process of gradually reducing the price to a more comfortable level for the Ukrainian consumer of about 65 hryvnias for 10 pieces, and, most likely, the price will be fixed at this level before the New Year holidays," she said. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine concluded a Memorandum with the "Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine" Association. The document is aimed at stabilising the prices of chicken eggs and preventing wholesale sales prices from exceeding the level at which eggs are supplied to retail chains. The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has started an investigation into the reasons for the increase in prices for chicken eggs in September-October 2022. As the Committee notes, even taking into account all the severe economic consequences of the war, the rapid increase in prices for chicken eggs (the increase in the cost of eggs in September 2022, compared to June 2022, was about 54%) may not have objective reasons.

Russia: Ryazan Significantly Increased the Production of Eggs

In 2021, for the first time in the history of the region, more than a billion chicken eggs were produced in the Ryazan region. Growth over 7 years was 38%: 2014 - 734 million units, 2021 - 1,014 million units. The production of chicken eggs in the history of the Ryazan region during the Soviet period peaked in 1988-1989 - 560 million pieces. The region then surpassed 560 million eggs in 2009 due to a significant increase in production at the Okskaya Poultry Farm, now JSC Okskoye, one of the largest Russian enterprises in its field.
